The Honda X-ADV 750 is one of the most versatile machines on the market. It crosses the line between maxi-scooter and adventure motorcycle with genuine capability on both tarmac and light off-road terrain. That dual-purpose character is exactly why it needs engine protection that a pure road scooter never requires. When you take the X-ADV off-road, the engine and lower frame are exposed to rocks, roots, mud and obstacles that will eventually make contact without a proper guard in place.
Why the X-ADV Needs Specific Protection
The Honda X-ADV 750 sits higher off the ground than a standard scooter, with a ground clearance that allows it to handle gravel tracks and forest roads. But that extra clearance also means the engine is less sheltered by the lower fairing than on a road-only machine. The DCT gearbox housing in particular sits in a vulnerable position on the right side of the engine and is the most commonly damaged component in low-speed off-road impacts.
The engine guard and skid plate combination addresses both the side impact risk and the underside impact risk in a single installation.
What the Kit Includes
- Engine case guard: covers the right-side DCT housing and left-side alternator cover. Both are cast aluminium and expensive to replace if cracked.
- Skid plate: a formed aluminium plate that runs under the engine sump and forward frame section, protecting against vertical impacts from rocks and raised obstacles during off-road use.
Compatibility
Designed for the Honda X-ADV 750 from 2017 to 2023. The guard uses existing engine bolt positions and requires no drilling or permanent modification to the frame. Removal for standard servicing is straightforward.
Materials
The engine case guards are cast from reinforced polymer, which is lighter than aluminium while still providing meaningful impact protection for the typical obstacles encountered in light off-road use. The skid plate is formed aluminium, chosen for its ability to slide over rocks rather than catch on them, and for its resistance to the bending forces created by repeated vertical impacts.
Riding Scenarios Where This Protection Earns Its Place
- Gravel tracks and forest roads where stones are thrown up from the front wheel.
- River crossings and muddy sections where submerged rocks create unpredictable contact points.
- Urban riding where raised kerbs, car park ramps and speed bumps are taken at angles that expose the underside of the engine.
- Any situation where the bike is laid down, whether deliberately for an off-road rest stop or accidentally at low speed.
Installation
The case guards clip onto the existing engine case bolt positions and secure with the supplied stainless bolts. The skid plate mounts to the lower frame using four bolts. Total installation time is approximately 40 minutes. No special tools are required beyond Allen keys and a basic torque wrench.
